Madhavraiji Temple
11 A 12th Century Legacy... Madhavpur is the site of a 12th-century temple of Madhavraiji who is a form of Lord Krishna. This East- facing temple, with a curvliner main shikhara and miniature shikhara, has a three part
1. SANCTUM
2. ANTARALA
3. AN ENCLOSED MANDAPA
The statues are very attractive and well decorated (Krishna and rukmini). This temple is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna married Rukmini. The original temple has been badly damaged by attacks by Muslim invaders; however a ruined structure is still present and gives idea of original undamaged temple. A newly constructed temple is used for worship now adjacent to the old one. In the memory of that event, there is a temple built for Lord Krishna aka Madhavraiji and Lord Balaram aka Trikamraiji. A celebration of this event is held at Madhavpur in memory of this marriage every year in a cultural fair for five days from the day of Ram Navami. Opposite to this temple, on the right side of NH,we find a small lane towards Madhuvan, where you can find Rukshmani temple. Madhavpur is also culturally significant due to one of the seats of Vallabhacharya who is founder of Pushtimarg Vaishnava Hindu sect. The seat, called as 'Baithak' or more respectably 'Bethakji' is 66th of the 84 Baithaks of Vallabhacharya. He narrated here the teachings of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita.
