Durga Temple - Aihole, Karnataka

Temple was built by Chalukya dynasty king Vikramaditya 2 in between 8th century. It is almost resembles a mini fort and therefore probably it is named #durga or #fortress rather than dedicated to goddess Durga. The presiding deities of the temple are #lordvishnu and #LordShiva. The word ‘Durga’ here actually means fortress. The porch gives access to 'Mukha-mandapa' and 'sabha-mandapa' leading into the Garba-Griha. Temple is quadrilateral, and the contour of the temple exhibits the Gajaprasta style. Durga Temple Aihole depicts a #Buddhist chaitya which is the seven-headed serpent carved at the ceiling of the Temple. Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
